In honor of the Sun and to balance the smokey heat throughout the west, I'm inviting you to try Golden Milk, based on any "milk" you like. This is a famous anti-inflammation recipe from the Ayurvedic healing tradition of India. Western medicine has also recognized its benefits with over 3,000 medical papers published on turmeric in the last 25 years (Herbal Medicine: Biomolecular and Clinical Aspects).

I drink this in the evening after any frustrating day or big workout. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Golden Milk for 2

  • 1 ½ tsp ground Turmeric or 2 tablespoons grated Turmeric root

  • (Optional) 1/4 tsp ground Ginger or 1 teaspoon freshly grated Ginger

  • 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil or Almond Oil

  • 1 pinch ground Black Pepper

  • 3 cups "Milk" of your choice My favorite "milk" for this recipe is coconut milk

  • Sweetener of choice (NOT optional)

  1. In a medium pot on the stove add the Turmeric, Ginger, Black pepper, and Oil.

  2. Stir over medium-low heat for 7 minutes while you think of something nice.

  3. Once you can smell the spice mixture, add milk. Whisk to combine.

  4. Simmer on medium-low until it almost boils. Nut milks will separate if you boil them.

  5. Turn off the heat.

  6. Add sweetener. Stir until the sweetener melts and blends in.

  7. Strain and serve in tea cups.

That's it! A seriously simple and fast recipe to add to your recovery tool kit. Remember that turmeric will stain anything it touches so don't drink this in your best clothes or on white carpet. If you’d like this recipe for 20 servings or 1,000 servings, just get in touch. I learned to make this for meditation festivals and have had to downsize the recipe for just two people.
